| Welcome
to Fir Mount House, our Victorian period home in the lovely village of Kingswear.
We are in an ideal location for exploring South Devon and, with professional cooks
as your hosts, you can be assured of the finest breakfasts and dinners available. We
have 2 comfortable bedrooms, one with its own ensuite bathroom and one with its
own fabulous private bathroom. Both rooms have comfy beds, crisp cotton bedding,
soft towels, television/dvd, radio/cd player and coffee/tea-making facilities.
They also both look over the River Dart and the surrounding countryside. New for 2008 is our twin room in the attic with fabulous panoramic views over the harbour and farmland. If you are a family or group of friends you can book this newly decorated room with the bedroom with the private bathroom to make a suite to sleep 6 altogether. After a good night's sleep, start the day with one of our fabulous breakfasts - homemade breads, jams & marmalades; homemade muesli, fresh fruits & yoghurt with local Devon apple juices; eggs from local free-range hens (or our own if they can be bothered to lay), scrummy local bacon and sausages, fresh tomatoes and mushrooms; rich coffee and refreshing tea.We have a lovely comfy sitting room where you can read, watch TV or catch up on DVDs and videos, play games and generally chill out. The outdoor decking is a great place to catch the afternoon sun whilst planning your evening. We offer an evening meal of the very finest locally sourced meat, fish and vegetables followed by truly luscious puddings. Bring your own wine and we can supply the rest from pre-dinner nibbles to after-dinner coffee and chocolates. 3 courses all for a very reasonable £27.50 per person. We are surrounded by wildlife and have regularly seen herons, oystercatchers, egrets, seals, ravens, buzzards, deer, badgers, peregrine falcons, kingfishers, longtailed tits, nuthatches, treecreepers, goldcrests as well as having a garden full of robins, wrens, coal tits, blue tits, great tits, greenfinches, chaffinches and crows. We
are a 12 minute walk from the ferries to Dartmouth with its lovely shops, galleries
and restaurants; are surrounded by fab places to visit - National Trust properties,
local gardens, river & coastal boat trips, beautiful beaches, excellent walks
on the coast path, up the river or further afield to Dartmoor. Dartmouth
has an almost endless series of festivals so it can certainly claim to have something
for everyone. There is the Comedy Festival, the Fishing Festival, the Food Festival,
the Music Festival, the Shakespeare Week, the Royal Regatta, the Candlelit Dartmouth
weekend at Christmas and regular Open Gallery weeks. We
are close to the Agatha Christie properties at Greenway and in Torquay as well
as the National Trust's Coleton Fishacre. You can enjoy a trip on the steam train,
a boat up to Totnes or round the coast to Brixham, a picnic on the Picnic Boat
based here in Kingswear or a walk out to Dartmouth Castle for afternoon tea with
an amazing view over the mouth of the river. Dartmouth
and Kingswear are stunning destinations all year round. There is always something
going on and a collection of fabulously yummy restaurants for all tastes. Come
and find out why we love it so much.
