Terms & conditions
By booking on any of our courses or accommodation you agree to abide by our terms and conditions. We reserve the right to make minor amendments to the Cookery Courses content and prices without notice.
Ingredients, utensils, knives, equipment and aprons are provided for all courses. Some meals are included in the course cost – please see appropriate course details for further information.
What’s not included:
Prices do not include accommodation. Please refer to our website for accommodation details and prices.
If you are unsure as to your skill requirements for a course, please phone us so we can help ascertain your level of experience before booking. We rely on students being able to self assess their own skill level and are happy to assist with this but cannot be held liable if you book a course much higher or lower than your actual skill level. Please call us on 01803 752943 if you are in doubt.
Health & Safety:
All participants should wear shoes with flat, non-slip soles and covered toes, preferably leather. We cannot admit you to the cookery school without proper footwear. We recommend wearing sensible clothing i.e. not your best outfit – we are not liable for any damage that occurs to clothing. Long hair must be tied back in the kitchen. All course participants will receive a short briefing on health and safety before commencing the course.
Special dietary requirements, food allergies & illness:
We are unable to tailor our course content for special dietary requirements unless you are booking a private workshop or course. However, we will be happy to discuss course content beforehand to allow you to make your own alternative eating arrangements if necessary. There is no reduction in fee in this instance.
Please inform us in advance of any allergies, disabilities, diabetes, pregnancy, epilepsy, learning difficulties etc.
The cooking school is located in Kingswear, South Devon. We also run courses at other locations including the Deer Park Country House Hotel, Honiton, Devon; Casa Las Chimeneas, Mairena, Spain; and Humble By Nature, Near Monmouth, Wales. If in doubt, students should verify the location of their chosen course before booking.
One and Two Day Courses: All payment should be made in full at the time of booking for both the Cookery Course and for the accommodation where appropriate unless otherwise agreed. We do not take provisional bookings and cannot confirm your place on a course or for accommodation until we receive full payment. You can pay online or call us and we can take a card payment over the phone.
Foodie Weeks Abroad: You can secure your place on our Foodie Weeks at Casa Las Chimeneas in Spain or Rural Gites in France with a non-refundable deposit. The balance of payment should be made 8 weeks prior to departure. It is essential you have travel insurance from time of booking.
If you have paid the full amount and can no longer attend, we can transfer the amount paid less the deposit as long as we can resell your place although this is not always possible at short notice.
Occasionally we may have to cancel a trip (eg if we have not sold sufficient places). If we do need to cancel the trip we will do so 6 weeks in advance. You can then –
a. still go on holiday to the venues but by yourselves and not with our itinerary in place. We will transfer any deposit received and put you in contact to transfer the remainder.
b. come with us on a future trip and we will pay for your flight transfers up to £50 per person for your return flights (not £50 per individual flight) by reducing your final bill by the relevant amount.
c. have any holiday payments you have made to Manna from Devon refunded (this does not cover any flights you may have bought).
Manna from Devon Gift Vouchers
All gift vouchers are non-refundable and have no face value.
Bookings using a gift voucher are subject to availability – do call us first to make sure there is place on the course you would like to attend.
A gift voucher may be redeemed against a course at the cooking school or a stay in the B&B.
A gift voucher can be used in part payment for a course of greater value.
When the price of the course is less than the value of the gift voucher, no refund will be given but you will have a credit for the difference to use towards another course.
If you are a recipient of a voucher, you have a year from the date of issue to use it. If you cannot use it within that time, you can pass it on to another person but must ensure you inform us of the new person’s name and contact details. No refund will be given except in exceptional circumstances.
The voucher is just for attending the course; additional costs such as travel or accommodation are at the recipient’s expense.
If the voucher is for a private woodfired cooking day, this can be taken here at the school or using the recipient’s oven at their home. If the latter, the voucher recipient is responsible for our tutor’s travel and accommodation expenses which are to be paid in advance of the course.
Cancellations & Refunds Policy
Our standard cancellation policy applies to all Cooking Courses bookings and Accommodation with the exception of our Foodie Weeks Abroad (see above).
Up to 28 days of the start of your course you may request a change of course dates and we will happily transfer you to another date, or course subject to availability. You may also request a refund up to 28 days of the start of the course you have booked. Please note there is an administration and handling charge of £30 for processing customer refunds.
Up to 14 days of the start of your course you may also request a refund of the course you have booked. If we are able to resell the space we will refund the course fee in full. If we are unable to resell the space we will refund 50% of the course fee. Please note there is an administration and handling charge of £30 for processing customer refunds.
Within 14 days of the start of your course: Most bookings for courses at the Manna from Devon are made many months in advance. It is therefore hard for us to resell any places within 14 days of the start of the course date, and any cancellations within this time can result in lost revenue that affect the ability of the Cooking School to deliver quality courses. If you cancel your booking within 14 days of the start of your cookery course and we are unable to resell your place in the time remaining, you will forfeit any course fees and accommodation associated with your booking. We recommend travel insurance for all students that will cover your costs in the event of you being unable to attend your course.
Cancellations by Manna from Devon Cooking School:
In the unlikely event of cancellation by ourselves, we undertake to provide a suitable alternative within a reasonable period of time. If this is not possible, and it is not possible for a claim to be made for insurance, we undertake to make an immediate full refund for course fees.
If we need to cancel for circumstances beyond our control, such as extreme weather conditions, we will offer you an alternative course to attend.
