    I bought the course for my husband, after he'd built a 'pizza oven' in the garden. The course was completely beyond our expectations! We knew we should be able to cook more than just pizzas but we came away with a world of possibilities!

    The course ran from 10am-5pm, during which time David and Holly taught us everything; from how to start the fire and control the temperature, to making dough, and cooking (to perfection!) vegetables, pork belly, fish, scallops, calamari, pizzas, chicken, potatoes, bread and cake!

    The course was so in depth, yet informal and enjoyable! We all got hand on experience and plenty of opportunities to ask specific questions. The best part, of course, was getting to taste everything we cooked! There really is nothing like the taste of wood fired cooking!

    We were so inspired we recreated a 5 course meal for our friends the following day! Our 'pizza' oven has now become a very versatile wood fired oven that we are excited to keep experimenting with, we couldn't recommend this course enough!" ... Laura on Trip Advisor. June 2013

    Thank you both for a wonderful weekend of Wood fired oven tuition and the opportunity to gorge on the produce, it was amazing, varied and plentiful. The next day I could not wait to light up my oven, I was out there at 07.00hrs and when the oven was up to temp. I did the Spatchcock chicken, potato wedges and a huge tray of roasted veg [with a little help from her indoors] Grrrrreat!!!! The following day we had some workman at the house which gave me the chance to improve my pizza skills, they loved them and did not stop talking about how much better they were cooked in a wood fired oven compared to what they would normally buy from their local pizza shop.

  • "I've often thought cooking outside a bit of a waste of time when I have a perfectly good kitchen indoors, and Indian cooking too complicated because of the huge amount of spices every recipe lists. However David Jones from Manna from Devon has convinced me I am wrong on both counts. My husband and I were fortunate enough to go to one of David's cookery days at the lovely Deer Park Hotel near Honiton. David is a relaxed and easy going instructor who talked us through the making (and eating) of some fabulous dishes. We started with a stuffed paratha, moved on to pakoras, then cumin spiced fish masala and ended up with an aubergine dish - lovely and smokey from the fire - mushrooms & chick peas, a fiery chilli sauce with a cooling raita and marinated chicken with naans.
