Wonderful food, a warm welcome and a beautiful location.

Terms & conditions

By booking on any of our courses or accommodation you agree to abide by our terms and conditions. We reserve the right to make minor amendments to the Cookery Courses content and prices without notice.

What’s included:
Ingredients, utensils, knives, equipment and aprons are provided for all courses. Some meals are included in the course cost – please see appropriate course details for further information.

What’s not included:
Prices do not include accommodation. Please refer to our website for accommodation details and prices.

Skill Levels:
If you are unsure as to your skill requirements for a course, please phone us so we can help ascertain your level of experience before booking. We rely on students being able to self assess their own skill level and are happy to assist with this but cannot be held liable if you book a course much higher or lower than your actual skill levels. Please call us on 01803 752943 if you are in doubt.

Health & Safety:
All participants should wear shoes with flat, non-slip soles and covered toes, preferably leather. We cannot admit you to the cookery school without proper footwear. We recommend wearing sensible clothing i.e. not your best outfit – we are not liable for any damage that occurs to clothing. Long hair must be tied back in the kitchen. All course participants will receive a short briefing on health and safety before commencing the course.

Special dietary requirements, food allergies & illness:
We are unable to tailor our course content for special dietary requirements unless you are booking a private workshop or course. However, we will be happy to discuss course content beforehand to allow you to make your own alternative eating arrangements if necessary. There is no reduction in fee in this instance.

Please inform us in advance of any allergies and disabilities such as diabetes, coeliac disease, gluten intolerance, pregnancy, epilepsy, other food allergies and intolerances etc.

Locations

The cooking school is located in Kingswear, South Devon. We also run courses at other locations including Suffolk Escape, Hintlesham, Suffolk;Season Cookery School at Lainston House, Winchester; and Humble By Nature, Near Monmouth, Wales. If in doubt, students should verify the location of their chosen course before booking.

Please bear in mind we are planning on moving the cooking school in 2021 so do make sure you know where we are before booking any accommodation for your course.

Payment

One and Two Day Courses: All payment should be made in full at the time of booking for both the Cookery Course and for the accommodation where appropriate unless otherwise agreed. We do not take provisional bookings and cannot confirm your place on a course or for accommodation until we receive full payment. You can pay online or call us and we can take a card payment over the phone.

It is essential you have travel insurance from time of booking.

Manna from Devon Gift Vouchers

All gift vouchers are non-refundable and have no face value. So if you are gifted a voucher, you can’t have a refund for cash; you can only use it as below.

Bookings using a gift voucher are subject to availability – do call us first to make sure there is place on the course you would like to attend.

A gift voucher may be redeemed against a course at the cooking school or a stay in the B&B.

A gift voucher can be used in part payment for a course of greater value.

When the price of the course is less than the value of the gift voucher, no refund will be given but you will have a credit for the difference to use towards another course.

If you are a recipient of a voucher, you have 6 months from the date of issue to use it. If you cannot use it within that time, you can pass it on to another person but must ensure you inform us of the new person’s name and contact details. No refund will be given except in exceptional circumstances.

If you do need to extend the date of the voucher, you should call us before the voucher expires. If there are exceptional circumstances meaning you haven’t been able to use your voucher , we may be able to extend the date for you to use it.

Please don’t email or phone with a voucher that expired 3 years ago saying you’ve just found it down the back of the sofa and can you use it; that’s just embarassing for all concerned!

The voucher is just for attending the course; additional costs such as travel or accommodation are at the recipient’s expense.

If the voucher is for a private woodfired cooking day, this can be taken here at the school or using the recipient’s oven at their home. If the latter, the voucher recipient is responsible for all our tutor’s travel and accommodation expenses which are to be paid in advance of the course.

If lockdown eats into your voucher’s 6 months, we will add any lockdown on to the end of your voucher – so if you had a voucher for Christmas that lasts until June and we are in lockdown for 2 months, your voucher will be extended into August.

Advice

Any advice is given in good faith and based on our experience of the subjects we are teaching. We can advise also on the type of woodfired oven that might be suitable for the kind of cooking you want to do with it. Any decisions on price, budget or whether you can get the oven in place due to the nature of your location are for you alone to make.

Any advice given with reference to woodfired ovens does not cover the construction of each individual oven you may be working with; if in doubt of how your oven is made or what insulation it has, you should contact the manufacturer. Any advice about fire safety, storage of your oven after use, or storage of embers/ash should be taken from fire industry professionals or the fire service.

Cancellations & Refunds Policy

Our standard cancellation policy applies to all Cooking Courses bookings.

Up to 28 days of the start of your course you may request a change of course dates and we will happily transfer you to another date, or course subject to availability. You may also request a refund up to 28 days of the start of the course you have booked. Please note there is an administration and handling charge of £30 for processing customer refunds.

Up to 14 days of the start of your course you may also request a refund of the course you have booked. If we are able to resell the space we will refund the course fee in full. If we are unable to resell the space we will refund 50% of the course fee. Please note there is an administration and handling charge of £30 for processing customer refunds.

Within 14 days of the start of your course. Most bookings for courses at Manna from Devon are made many months in advance. It is therefore hard for us to resell any places within 14 days of the start of the course date and any cancellations within this time can result in lost revenue that affect the ability of the Cooking School to deliver quality courses. If you cancel your booking within 14 days of the start of your cookery course and we are unable to resell your place in the time remaining, you will forfeit any course fees and accommodation associated with your booking.

If you need to cancel for any unforeseen reason such as a massive storm/government advice not to travel, we will move your booking. We will do our best to move your entire booking (ie if you have booked accommodation and courses) however if we cannot rebook you into our accommodation as well as a course on a new date, we cannot refund your accommodation fees as you will have cancelled at the last moment and we will have undoubtedly turned people away and will not be able to refill your booking.

B&B bookings -if these are not for cooking course students, these are to be paid in full at time of booking. If you need to cancel we will refund your fees as long as we can refill your original dates. Any refund will be subject to our regular admin fee.

We recommend travel insurance for all students that will cover your costs in the event of you being unable to attend your course.

Any cancellation must be made by email to info@mannafromdevon.com

Cancellations and Postponements by Manna from Devon Cooking School:

If we need to cancel for circumstances beyond our control, such as extreme weather conditions or national emergency, we will offer you an alternative course to attend. If you would prefer a refund, our normal admin fees will apply.

In the unlikely event of cancellation by ourselves for reasons other than those listed above, we undertake to provide a suitable alternative course within a reasonable period of time.

Coronavirus 2022 – this is still a challenging time for all of us. We are open again and running courses. Our courses are run with small groups in a large airy space. We have masks and gloves for those who want them and we have hand wash facilities with plenty of handgel for students to use.

If you are booked on a course which we have to cancel due to Covid, we will rearrange your course to a future date. We highly recommend travel insurance that covers you for accommodation/travel that has already been booked or that you make arrangements that are transferable.

If you need to rearrange due to your own positive Covid test, please let us know as soon as possible and we will rearrange your course date for you. As a positive Covid test is likely to happen very shortly before a course, our refunds policy as above applies. Please don’t be offended if we ask for proof of your test.
