Wonderful food, a warm welcome and a beautiful location.

Here We Go ……..

Morning all.  We are sat in Heathrow airport, munching scarmbled aggs and smoked salmon and  waiting for flight BA217 to Washington DC.  All on time and running to plan after a short night’s sleep and very early start in Herefordshire where we’d dropped of the dogs for their holiday with Uncle Greg.

Barbecue The BookI’ve downloaded a little light reading for the flight.  I thought this might get me in the right frame of mind for the Big Barbecue Road Trip.  Of course, if it’s drier than a badly cooked brisket it’ll just put me to sleep … and that might not be a bad thing.

Our first port of call after we land will be Alexandria, Virginia (really a suburb of DC), where we’ll be catching up with an old naval colleague and my best man, Laurence. He’s there with his American wife Julie and their kids and we can’t wait to spend a bit of time with the family.  Laurence has lined up a champagne tasting and a couple of top barbecue spots for us to try so we’ll be hitting the foodie adventure ground running come tomorrow.

Our map is already looking a little out of date,  As we hear of various great recommendations which we just can’t miss and renowned bbq chefs agree to meet us and show the back of house at their joints (I’m getting into the lingo), the plan evolves.  We’re staying very flexible in case something unmissable comes up.  Of course, if it does, you’ll know all about it here.

Laaaayder!
