Wonderful food, a warm welcome and a beautiful location.

SWCP Day 12 – Oh Feet don’t Desert me Now!

Today’s walk from Penzance to Lizard Point was fantastically dramatic, fairly easy going and blessed with reasonable weather.  It would have been close to perfect were it not for the pain in my feet trying its best to bring the whole thing to a grinding halt.

Having covered 14 miles I met Holly in Porthleven, 45 minutes later than I’d hoped, and I was getting pretty desperate. I just had to get out of my boots and even though running shoes provide no ankle support and very little grip I decided they were the only option for the remaining 14 miles. I set off feeling I had little chance of completing the planned walk but very soon the pain was gone and I got into a great rhythm, completing the section in 4 hrs 40 minutes.

Along the way I saw a monument to the first wireless telegraph …

By the time I finished Holly had organised for me to see a physio. I was whisked away to see Clare at Helston Physiotherapy Practice who had stayed behind after hours to fit me in.  A foot massage, new insoles for my boots and some great advice and I’m feeling much more confident about tomorrow.

Tomorrow I pass the half way mark but today I went through half the total climbing milestone.  I’ve now climbed over 60,000ft. I’ve also completed 300 miles ending the day at 302.
